I Don't Want a Bomb in My Bath

Ok, I understand the appeal of the product usually called “bath bombs”. Not only are they full of soothing bath stuff (epsom salts, essential oils, baking soda), but they FIZZ! It's bath time fun for grown ups! Yay!

But “bombs”? Alliteration is great and all, but it sounds so violent. You're all ready for a relaxing, soothing soak in the tub...and BOOM! Eh...maybe I'm just getting old. Regardless, I refuse to be a part of this bath time violence. SO, I've been working on a recipe for Bathtub Fizzers (I know, I know...) which are basically the same thing. Only better. Because they don't promote weaponizing your bathing routine.

Confession: I don't like baths. Before last week I hadn't taken a bath in...as long as I can remember. Baths require too much work. In order for me to actually enjoy a bath, I first have to scrub the bathtub completely, take a shower (because otherwise I might contaminate the bath with my dirt...I know, I know...), then rinse off after, and clean out the tub again. And all for 20 minutes of soaking in warm water.

But I certainly wouldn't sell a product I hadn't tested personally. So I made the sacrifice. And I get it now. These things really are kind of great for a number of reasons. The fizz is fun for a few minutes, but it's only a small part of the appeal. The scent fills the whole room, and it's all silky and soothing on your skin...I felt pretty damn relaxed and happy. That doesn't mean I'll be doing this on a regular basis. Still too much work. But if you're a bath person, these are great! Soothing baking soda and olive oil for your skin, epsom salts to relax your muscles, essential oils for a variety of good things.

These have earned a permanent spot in my line up. So far I've tried Oatmeal Lavender: even more skin soothing from the oatmeal and the lavender scent is sooo relaxing, and Mint Rosemary: cleared my head and left me feeling refreshed. I'll be playing with other scent combinations. Ideas? Requests? Let me know.

Coming soon...

We've still got some summer left, but I'm turning my thoughts toward autumn. In the next 6 weeks, look for Hazel Basil Paw Protection Balm, inspired by my favorite furry redhead. Also, Spiced Cider Soap, Amber Ale Shampoo and Shave Bar, and Winter Skin Balm.

Happy Labor Day Weekend, everyone!
