Mostly this was just an opportunity to show everyone a picture of Hazel. Because she's SO CUTE. But it's also to introduce the balm that she inspired. Awhile back, Hazel's moms asked if I'd consider making a balm for dogs. I've heard from other dog parents that cold weather walks can be tough on paws. Cold air, snow, and salt do a lot of damage. Many furry friends have to wear boots in the wintertime for that reason. Paws get dry and cracked. Would I consider it? Hazel looked at me with those big loving eyes, and I immediately said yes. Whatever she needs. I'll do it.
Hazel Basil's Paw Protection Balm is a blend of olive & coconut oils, beeswax, and shea butter, with a small amount of basil & lavender essential oils for a light, calming scent. Hazel has tested it, and given her stamp of approval. Apply some before going on walks as a barrier against the elements, and after coming inside to sooth and moisturize.
Important note: Hazel’s balm is safe for dogs to ingest, and we all know they're going to lick at it (Hazel seems to think it's pretty tasty), but I wouldn't recommend letting your dog eat a large amount. You never know what might upset their tummy. Also, this balm is NOT for cats. But most cats don't go on winter walks anyway, right?
For all you dog parents, and your canine companions...I hope this finds you safe, healthy, and ready to take on the cold weather.
